Revised 6/5/2022
The Tennessee Tree Toppers Hang Gliding and Paragliding club was established over 40 years ago in 1977. We are a 501(c)(7) Not-for-Profit club and depend solely on donations and membership dues to cover our operational costs. Over the years, we’ve developed substantial amenities for use by our members, including:
- three phenomenal Hang Gliding and Paragliding launches at two world-class flying sites, Henson Gap and Whitwell,
- a huge 40-acre groomed landing field,
- a heated clubhouse/bunkhouse with kitchen,
- a shower/bath house,
- a pavilion,
- camping spots with electricity, and
- additional acreage for future use.
We began as a hang gliding club. In 2015 we adopted paragliding. Thanks to the generosity of our neighbor, we were able to use their property as a paragliding launch. In 2018, we had a rare opportunity to expand club property by purchasing land adjacent to our world-class Henson Gap ‘Radial Ramp’ from the Burnside family. We began fundraising towards the purchase of this land, and thanks to many generous donors and volunteers, an excellent paragliding launch was created.
We are grateful for the financial assistance from the Foundation for Free Flight and are proud to announce that as of October 13, 2021, the mortgage on the Burnside Launch has been paid off.
We have many projects planned for the future, so stay tuned!
